Wilhelm Wachtel was a Jewish-Polish realist painter and illustrator.

Born in Lviv,[Ukraine], he studied at the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts under Leon Wyczółkowski and Leopold Löffler, and then the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under Nikolaus Gysisa.
