Biography of Groucho Marx
Groucho Marx was an American actor and comedian, best known as a member of the comedy group known as the Marx Brothers.
He was born in New York and began performing with his brothers in vaudeville shows at a young age. During this time, Groucho developed his iconic stage persona, which included painted-on eyebrows and mustache, glasses, and a cigar.
He always portrayed a sardonic trickster and adventurer who constantly caused trouble for respectable society.
Early Success
Groucho and his brothers achieved their first success on Broadway in the musical "I'll Say She Is" in 1924.
